Swim Week ‘10 Miami

REdsmall

A local Miami designer named Red Carter who was Mercedes Benz Presents  Swim Designer of the Year   last year…totally stole the show at Mercedes Benz Swin Week ‘10 in Miami over the past few days. This Swimsuit above probably produced the singularly most iconic look of the event.  Below, The True Religion show, in its own right, caused a few medical emergencies on the media riser….and was also, to be fair, able to produce some seriously iconic images as well, one of which we feature here.

The Gaye Watkins Report

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

GayeThe Metropolitan Museum of Art’’s,Young Members Party was buzzing with members 35 years and younger as well as those young at heart, gathering to support the Metropolitan’s effort to raise awareness of its exhibiitions, gain new membership and just have a good time..The Iris and  B. Gerald Roof Top Garden was open with “Maelstrom” the art of Roxy Paine, taking a huge portion of the area with its twisting metal maze of silver branches. Perfect for taking pictures in and around it. Staff had no luck keeping guests away from the art. Why fight it? The art invites you to explore. But at night with a drink in your hand it gets tricky. Other staff  stole a chance between elevators to get down and boogie to the beat for a moment. The Model as Muse exhibit was also open for viewing. One person’s review of the exhibit, having worked in the fashion industry had a, been there, done that, attitude about the whole thing. But for most of us not so steeped in that world it should do the trick. I met a lovely young lady who told me  she is a new Young Member and hadn’t been to the museum since she was 7 years old. She adores the Met. Heck, I love this grand dame of new york museums too. There’s nothing like it here. You can spend the entire day and never get bored. And to Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Phillipe de Montebello, hopefully understanding years later that although he may have complained in the past of too many people not paying full admission, the public still supports and enjoys the Met just the same. Enriching more people’s lives than he can imagine. I’m sure some of his large donatiing patrons would agree.

Xuly Bet Fall 09/Jessica Lapidos/C. Rhodes

Jessica Lapidos is the editor of Udress Magazine and someone we always see in New York . Our card crapped out after the African Collective Show…also scambling our Charlotte Ronson images…which were, you know, hot…..and this raw image…noticeably in focus relative to our other stuff is by Ms. Lapidos. She’s  at Udressmag.com. All other raw images in collection are by C. Rhodes. This image is of Grace Jones. Grace showed up to the after party at The Plaza four hours after the party ended…and she allegedly kept screaming that she needed a security detail. It was 7:30 in the morning. Her driver gently got her over to Barney’s Beanery for a well deserved bagel and coffee. But this was a great moment at Fall ‘09, and thanks to Ms. Lapidos…someone who really has this in her veins and should be doing great fashion journlism in the years to come.
