The Africa Foundation hosted the Art for Africa Preview and Gala at Sotheby’s auction house on 1334 York avenue. The Africa Foundation’s Chair of the Board of Trustees Krista Krieger, thanked the sponsors and the 23 individuals who participated in the auction. Mistress of Ceremonies Actress Archie Punjabi spoke of  her memories visiting and working in Africa that were at times intoxicating and thought provoking. Since 1992, Africa Foundation has been working with communities of people in nearby areas of protected wilderness to empower people through healthcare, income and education in South and Eastern Africa. Funding was also raised that night for the new school for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Performance by Maija Farcia, assistant choreographer for the Broadway musical Fela, African musician Samite and the art of Mary Sabinde, were yet another layer to a beautiful evening of art and graceful giving. Art for Africa’s collection will be just the start of other events including an art exhibit and auction November 12th through the November 17th.
