“The most popular procedures done these days,” says prominent plastic surgeon Robert L. Cucin, “are lipoplasty (liposuction), eyelid surgery, breast implants, nose jobs, facelifts, and Botox injections and fillers.”
He continues, “Our name, Airbrush Liposculpture® obviously emphasizes liposuction and using fat autografts to correct wrinkles and perform Brazilian buttock lifts, the most popular cosmetic procedures requested in our offices now are lipoplasty and fat grafting. Traditionally liposuction or lipoplasty only addressed localized excess amounts or deposits of fat or “problem areas” such as the “coeur de cheval” or saddle bag (riding breeches) deformity or love handles.”
However, improved technology has changed liposuction from an operation of inches to an operation of pounds. Twin Cannula Assisted Liposuction or TCAL with the Airbrush Liposculptor® by BioSculpture Technology, Inc has enlarged the population of potential patients to overweight, frankly obese, and older patients with greater skin laxity. Since the Airbrush Liposculptor® cannulas never get warm, unlike the LASER or ultrasound methods, there is no risk of skin burns and a much lessened chance of seromas (fluid connections) in attempting to maximize skin contraction. This more gentle harvesting also allows better viability in fat harvesting for autografts for the face, breast or buttock. 10 to 13 pounds may safely be removed in out patient sessions, which may be performed under local if the patient prefers. Since there is less blood loss and shorter recovery, these Airbrush sessions may be repeated at short intervals as appropriate. Reduction of the waist to hips ratio in these patients has been shown to have health benefits as well as the obvious cosmetic improvement. As appropriate a minimally undermining abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” may be carried out in the last session.
Since obesity is a burgeoning problem with 43% of the U.S.forecast to be obese in 10 years, as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus increasing in prevalence and afflicting approximately 80% of obese patients, it is not surprising why this trend began and is gaining speed.
Dr. Cucin has authored five books, over two dozen contributions to the medical literature, and as evidence of his artistic nature, a ballet piano score. He pioneered new methods of breast reconstruction which involved cryopreservation of the nipple. He is also the inventor of power assisted liposuction and holds 16 patents on liposuction devices and methods and has another 24 patent applications pending.
