Naomi’s Relief

At the Fashion for Relief show held at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week at Bryant Park, Naomi Campbell thanked and hugged friends backstage after she strutted the catwalk with many other celebs, like Diane von Furstenberg and Donna Karan etc. Naomi’s Fashion for Relief charity, supports suffering mothers and children in Haiti. Her second Haiti Relief show is set for feb 18th in London. Naomi’s Russian billionaire boyfriend Vlad Doronin, hung back from the crowd and watched her speak with media before they rushed off. Actor Alan Cummings worked the runway in a pleated kilt skirt. Model Agyness Deyn on the runway was a true show stopper twice falling after not being able to walk in some of the highest stilettos known to man and finally walking barefoot. Bethann Hardison of Bethann Management, said of the evening “great”. Sarah Ferguson and author Frannie Lebowitz gave introductions during the Haiti Relief show. Lebowitz told me she is presently working on a new book and when asked about the unlit cigarette dangling from her mouth explained, ”look, smoking is an addiction.” When I asked her opinion about Whoopie Goldberg’s attempt at quitting smoking a few years ago she replied ”What?! Just saw her last week!. She was smoking!“

At the IMG backstage lounge, the Zone Perfect Indulgence chocolate representatives were on hand with gold Michael Kors handbags filled with chocolates, Ralph Lauren sunglasses and Tori Burch scarfs. Oh, and a little Moet with a dash of Chambord liqueur at the IMG’s lounge bar, pretty tasty.

In terms of both the collection and the show itself Malan Breton put together the best runway show of fall 2010. The perfomances by Anoop Dessai and the Sa Dance company were exquisite and Malan has found a perfect balance between theatre, smashing style, and a glowing humanity. Malan Breton had won the Glamwire Paolo Award for the best show and collection of Fall 2010 in New York.
