Beki Pina Colada Thomas!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

More of the incredible journalistic stylings of Australian Rocker Beki Thomas.

If ya cool, ya cool.
I guess you can look cool..but not actually BE cool..which means ya not cool..you just LOOK cool…or you can LOOK like a total boring nerdy bastard and be VERY cool…if you are cool that is.
What makes someone cool?
Why is Fonzie cool? Is it the leather jacket or the way he bashes the jukebox to make it work?
The combo of both I think….and the way he combs his hair.
There’s this granny that hangs on Bedford Ave in Williamsburg…her name’s Leanora and she’s cooler than all the hipsters put together..she’s been there for 60 years..she props herself up on the bench outside El Biet cafe, done up to the nines and looking immaculate in her leopard print jacket, massive pink pearls, hot pink lippy, vintage (of course) stilettos…the works….she knows everyone on the strip and you’ll often see her with a little crowd of skinny jeaned, pointy shoed, guitar holding dudes and kooky indie queens around her while she tells stories of how she hasn’t had a man in 40 years!!…since her husband died and how she used to be a model and have we seen her photo up in the resturant around on Nth 9th??
Leanora and I became instant buddies..we just looked at eachother and went “YEP”.
I think people that tip well are cool (& sexy)
I think people that smile at you with their eyes when you walk past are cool.
I think people that are supportive of others are cool (especially if they have good hair)
I think Johnny Depp in Cry Baby is COOL.
I think, if you are already cool, then you get some cool tattoos, it makes you cooler.
I think if you admit that you love at least ONE Britney song you’re cool.
I think, if you let your best girlfriend borrow your brand spanking new dress to wear before you’ve even worn it, your cool.
I think if you don’t try too hard to be cool it makes you cooler….if you try TOO hard to be cool, you can look like a fool.
I think people who put hot chilli on stuff are just that bit cooler than people who “can’t eat spicy food”.
I think guys who aren’t afraid to enjoy a big, white, fluffy coconut, rum and pinapple cocktail with an umbrella in it are cool.
It doesn’t matter how old you are either….i saw the coolest little hip hop baby kickin’ back on the L train the other day with headphones on.
I think people who go to the store in NYC in their PJ’s n socks in the ad break to get food are cool…… WOW!! That means – according to me, I’m cool………..Oh…..but what if you slip over in the store coz your running and wearin’ socks???…..

PPR Sales Up 20% in Q1

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

PARIS ? Despite a ?challenging quarter? for Gucci, France?s PPR on Thursday said first-quarter sales rose 20 percent thanks to the addition of Puma and robust sales at Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta.
Gucci?s sales in the quarter advanced 2.4 percent at constant exchange rates as sales sputtered in more mature markets, like the United States and Europe. After the impact of negative currency exchange, Gucci?s sales dipped 3.3 percent to 513 million euros, or $769.5 million at average exchange.

?Action plans have already been implemented to enable the brand to regain a growth rate consistent with group objectives,? PPR said.

Overall, PPR said sales in the three months through March reached 4.91 billion euros, or $7.37 billion, slightly edging most analysts? estimations.

Sales grew 4 percent after the impact of currency exchange, reflecting the impact the high value of the euro against the dollar and yen is having on European luxury firms.

PPR?s overall luxury sales improved 9.6 percent at constant exchange ? 4 percent after currency exchange ? to 816 million euros, or $1.22 billion, led by rapid growth in Asia, excluding Japan, and China, where sales bounded 116 percent.

PPR?s stock was down over 1.4 percent to 83.20 euros, or $130.58, in mid-morning trading on the Paris Bourse.

Carmen Marc Volvo Fall ’08

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Carmen Marc Volvo’s satin 1920′s evening wear show was a tad boring, though a snip, quite a snip, elegant. Obvious decco 20s references and beautiful satins marked the collection, but to this reporter, not much else marked it. Though I wouldn’t complain if my date showed up wearing one of these ensembles (they carried kind of sombre austerity with their rich historic elegance, always nice at the Kinsdale Tavern or The Barking Dog on the Upper East Side, my haunts) as a show, and as a collection, it did not dazzle or inspire. — Miles Redfield, Reporting.
