Sunday, February 15th, 2009Controversy in Tribeca: <Br>Guests Of Cindy Sherman Asked to Leave
Monday, April 28th, 2008
Zak Soreff and Milon Henry Levine are Guests of Cindy Sherman…or at least of the film “Guest of Cindy Sherman” which premiered last night in NYC.
Controversy swirlled around the Tribeca Film Festival last night as Cindy Sherman released a statement regretting her involvment in Tom Donahue and Paul H-O’s film “Guest of Cindy Sherman.” Here is the text of that statement:
“As my name is in the title and my work and self are so abundantly represented, I would like to counter any assumption that I am or wish to be personally associated with it. I am not a participant in any events related to the film’s screenings in this festival or future presentations.
I apologize to all those who participated, thinking they were doing me a favor in giving interviews and otherwise assisting in the fabrication of this film.
Against my better judgment, it was clearly unwise to cooperate with the project at its inception.”
Genuine Statement or Relatively Intelligent Publicity Stunt?
Your thoughts are most welcome.
Custo Barcelona Fall ’08
Sunday, February 10th, 2008
If Bill Blass seems to be rooted in a time and place..Custo Barcelona…despite the name of designer Custo Dalmau’s company, is rooted in Custo. With menswear that would be hard for this reporter to wear, though it looks fun on, you know, very thinnish men, Custo has a magnificent feeling for women and every part of his show refects that, including his menswear. From the hair, to the patterns, to the fabrics, to the bopping Eurolads next to them….Custo women are energized and entering flat-out heavy duty bomshellocity. Note to You: These clothes DO bring out the drop-dead inner bombshell…. always good news to the Glamwire News Team. Sure, the styling makes it happen in this show as well. Old timers complain about the rise of styling on the runway…and if you don’t have this hair… proceed cautiously with Custo at your favorite department store…Truthfully though the clothes will look great on a lot of women….the width of this collection’s style is there. Hillary Clinton and Georgette Moschburger would look great in some of the dresses and that stunning grey and read mohair coat (Custo #3). For young and the more courageous old, this is a wildly original and energizing collection and it stamps the style of this talented designer on the New York runways.

Temperley London Fall ’08
Saturday, February 9th, 2008
The name smacks of a Tanquery Gin Ad and something about Alice Temperley throws you into the sense of aristocratic elegance…and its not just the London that accents her legendary line’s name. Temperley’s Fall ’08 collection carries just the right combination of voluptuousness, or what Glamwire Junior Reporter Zac Time eagerly refers to as “sluttiness,” and refined-yet-swinging British Glamour. It was one of Glamwire’s favorite collections this season.

Anna Sui Fall ’08
Saturday, February 9th, 2008This collection marked for Anna Sui a progression. Last fall saw a lot of faux fur eskimo jackets and gloves…and this fall Sui went Psychadelic Eskimo–Native American–Pan Asian to push her own glorious style to the limit. To me this was the collection that was truest to Anna Sui herself, rooted in color, hippie splendour, cross culturalism and delving into the richness and beauty of bohemia and yes, dare I mention it here online, love.

Betsey Johnson Fall ’08
Monday, February 4th, 2008There is a feeling that sixties free spirited, Love Above All vibe really takes hold in New York. At least during Fashion Week. We’ve mentioned that feel to shows by Erin Fetherston, Sass and Bide, G-Starm, Miss Sixty, and bohemia is always directly behind Heatherrette, which will not show this season, possibly directly due to eccessive bohemia. When Diane Furstenburg shows on Sunday, you are dealing with one of the lions of the early 70s coming out of the 60s, and that vibe reaches its absolute apex, with the everloving Betsey Johnson. I don’t think there has ever been a Betsey Johnson show where she does not play “Lowrider” at least once (sometimes she returns to it several times during a show). The tables are always there, Russel Simmons always seems to have the same spot, I have the same spot some 300 yards behind Russel Simmons. Betsey always does her Cartwheel and brings out a grandchild….its amazing. 30 looks from the new collection and 18 of her all time greatest to celebrate the 30th year. Always one of the sexiest, lively and heartwarming shows at New York Fashion Week.

Tracy Reese Fall ’08
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008
It has been said that Tracy Reese’s Fall ’08 show that just finished up here in New York is all about the elements and the weather. Swirling sky patterns, sheer grey cocktail dresses and a whole slew of caramel and rust combos proved that. As a show meant to capture the elements and weather it was perfect. Autumn elegance has a new name…it is Tracy Reese.

Rock and Republic Fall ’08
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008
Rock and Republic is another company built upon jeans. Started 5 years ago in La, when CEO Michael Ball made a pair of jeans for his girlfriend, today R&R does well over $100 million a year and did a major show in Bryant Park here tonight, replete with a rock orchestra, strings, guitars, horns, and piano accompanying a medley of history’s greatest rock numbers, ending with the great Sargent Peppers’ Beatle’s orgasmic crescendo ending. Some of the best fashion shows work very well as theatre and clearly Rock and Republic put up a really memorable, grand, totally huge show. The clothes, well…rocked. Black and Purple only, lots of leather…making elegance out of hard rock. Bell and his partner Andrea Bernholtz have tapped into something Peter Morgan over at the Hard Rock Cafe has known for a while…rock and roll still sells… alot. Ball’s look is original and great…he is a fashion natural and a newly minted serious player. They say their look is meant to be sillouette inspired…and our crack photo coverage is meant to, um, pick up on that.

Sass And Bide Fall’ 08
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008
Sass and Bide started as a jeans company in Australia, but they have quickly branched out into casual stuff that has the look of high end wearable art. The clothes are made carefully with ecclectic, luxurious fabrics highlighted by the ocassional, ruffled organza shoulder and heavy use of metallic medallion-like patches everywhere. It comes off as thoughtful and precious and adds a deeply upscale element to this casual collection.

Erin Fetherston Fall ’08
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008
Erin Fetherston laid out another unremarkable yet fun collection in New York today showing that she has more and more money apparently behind her, and giving forth a kind Pia Zadora of the fashion industry vibe. There is a young very basic hippy vibe to some of it, and the long white evening wear was lovely, but again, unremarkable. When the big guns send in Hamish Bowles for a name designer….u know its more about society than the clothes.
