Cannes Day 10: In Competition: “Pater”

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

On Day 10, Yves is disoriented again. Perhaps he is bowing to the muse, or he’s lost a contact lense or both…or he’s hitting the deck to deal with the End of Days, either way, he’s frigging starving..and could defintiely use a crossiant right about now.

IN COMPETION: “PATER”  FRANCE 105 MINS

SYNOPSIS: Vincent Lindon and Alain Cavalier are pals. Like father and son. They sip port in bars dreaming of a film they might make. Together.
Then just once in a while, they don suit and tie. Play men of power. See how much trouble they can make. For a laugh. They tell a tall story, that’s part really personal, part, well – just plain tall. Only, as ever at the movies, there’s that excellent question no one can answer: is it really all make-believe?

Cannes Day 3: In Competition “The Artist”

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Hey, well it looks like Monseiur St. Levine’s Fleur has wound up in the trashy downtown Cannes hotel room that Madmoiselle Francine calls home during the fest. NOTE: These people really will not change clothes during this. This will be noticed. Fair warning.  A film that I think several companies are  circling around right now below. It is called “The Artist.”

The Artist. France. 100 Mins.

SYNOPSIS: Hollywood 1927. George Valentin is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller, it seems the sky’s the limit – major movie stardom awaits.

I can’t wait for the LA Premiere!”  The after-party, which was held at The Gates, featured a sponsored vodka bar and many personalities from the film festival, like its Executive Director, Stuart Alson, who commented, “’Crumble’ is a compelling and well made film with an outstanding effort from a first time director, and an unforgettable performance by newcomer Alexandra Grossi.”

Legendary Porn Star Brittany Andrews and “Scarface” star Steven Bauer Roq “Crumble”

Noted Porn Star Brittany Andrews makes her producing debut and stars in Renatta Bialkowska’s “Crumble” which will have its world premiere at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF) at Village East Cinema on Saturday July 24, 2010 at 6:10 PM on Screen 3. “Crumble” originated from a short story written by former film publicist Renata Bialkowska, who wanted to make a statement about the empowerment of women and exploitation of their sexuality.

Inspired by “Thelma and Louise” and “Requiem for a Dream,” the narrative unfolds as refined upper class trophy wife Lorna loses her seemingly perfect husband Mike to sordid affairs and dark addictions. She is then lured into the seedy New York City underground scene and empowers herself through an unlikely relationship with a prostitute named Bianca. A sexy arthouse thriller, “Crumble” is one woman’s journey through self-discovery and eventually out of the “box” that has imprisoned her for so many years.

Greed, lust, addiction, chaos… this truly gritty tale pays homage to the underworld of New York City and ends with a surprise twist sure to please even the most discerning fan of the genre. Bialkowska approached Golden Globe nominated actor Steven Bauer to play the role of the ruthless and dark antagonist named Reda. Bauer, best known for his role as Manolo opposite Al Pacino in “Scarface,” immediately took a liking to the script and his complex character. He has appeared in over 100 films including “Traffic” and “Primal Fear.”  The female protagonist, Lorna, is played by Ukrainian beauty Oksana Lada who is best known for her recurring role in HBO’s “The Sopranos,” and was recently in the Sundance nominated film “Cold Souls.”  NYIIFVF’s founder and Executive Producer Stuart Alson stated “’Crumble’ is a compelling and well made film with an outstanding effort from a first time director, and an unforgettable performance by newcomer Alexandra Grossi who plays ‘Bianca.’”

“Crumble” will have its world premiere on Saturday July 24th in New York City. For more information please go to www.crumblethemovie.com  NYIIFVF will take place July 22nd-29th 2010 and is a competitive film event that screens 250 diverse films from all over the globe. Film Tickets are priced at $12 and can be purchased through www.nyfilmvideo.com. Tickets for “Crumble” will also be available at the Village East Cinema during the festival.
