East Side says Just Drive
East Side House Settlement revved up the senses with a preview of the New York Auto Show at Jacob Javits Center near 42 Street and 12th ave. The 11th annual gala had rare cars that made your heart stop, forget about the real world, step in and just imagine the ride. Some cars that demanded attention, and got it were, a 2010 rolls royce drophead coupe, 2009 Ferrari 599gtb, 2010 Spyker C8 Spyder, and a Lamborghini Super Veloce.The new Aston Martin Rapide was driven into the dinner event for its driving package live auction. But besides the glitz and glam, most people were there to support the East Side House Settlement that offers social services to families and others in the South Bronx. The funds raised will be used for motivating ESH students and serving the South Bronx community. Bobby Zarin, husband of Jill Zarin of the reality show “Real Housewives of New York City”, spoke to me of his other love, cars. His favorite, the Bentley. He said he bought his first Bentley when he was in his 20’s, and he’s been hooked ever since. He also mentioned the 16 or 17 car garage he had at a former home. But I guess even Bobby has had to scale down a bit these days. After another successful business deal, Zarin is seeking his next Bentley. Other happy faces that night were from Daniel and Hank of Greystone Aviation. As they cruised the Porsches and Jaguars they regaled me with tales such as the upstate deer that destroyed a Porsche, the magnificence of car engineering and darn it, just how good it feels to drive a great car. My car of the night, the Jaguar XK. Aston Martin inspired, used in an Austin Powers film, and just may give me a reason to give up my search for a meaningful relationship.
